VELVET OR VELOUR ? AND WHAT'S THE DIFF...........

REMEMBER THE VELOUR JUMPSUITS OF THE 70'S ? ONLY TO BE RE-MIXED IN THE 90'S ? ( I CALL THEM J. LO OUTFITS ;)  ~ WELL, NOW ALL THE GIRLS ARE LOOKING FOR VELVET DRESSES.
BUT THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE TWO !
BASICALLY,  THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS IN THEIR CONSTRUCTION.
VELOUR IS A KNIT FABRIC WITH STRETCH, WHILE VELVET IS A WOVEN BACKED FABRIC. CHA-CHING!  ~ VELVET WAS HISTORICALLY MADE WITH SILK, BUT TODAY MOST VELVETS ARE MADE WITH COTTON OR SYNTHETIC FIBERS ( Like polyester or nylon), NO STRETCH, BUT LESS QUALITY FIBERS........
SO BASICALLY VELOUR IS A KNIT (Used mostly in clothing) WHILE TRUE VELVET IS GENERALLY USED IN THEATRICAL DRESSING ( As it is so heavy).

THE WORD "VELOUR" IS ORIGINALLY A FRENCH WORD TRANSLATING TO "VELVET" IN ENGLISH.
No wonder it is so confusing here in the U.S :)

THUS MY FAUX 'VELVET' PANTS (AKA, J.LO VELOUR ;) ~ ( I seem to be on a pants kick this week ;)
OR AT LEAST A COMFY KICK THIS WEEK :) ~ I suppose I am having an "anti-trendy" week.
Although, that really makes me trendy...............
I also belted the grey cotton tunic as to allow the white blouse to show......
I draw inspiration from all kinds of places and bloggers.
I think I am trying to channel Shannon lately :)

THESE ARE MY ROCKER VELOUR'S. MY "SETS" ALL WENT BYE-BYE A LONG TIME AGO. ( I swear ;)
AND OHIOAN'S ARE KNOW FOR WEARING FLIPPIES WELL INTO THE WINTER !
I DESPERATELY NEED A PEDI ;)
( Though the super-cold hits tomorrow.......)
SPEAKING OF WHICH (Not the pedi - Tomorrow ;)

I have dresses in both velvet and velour. I must say the velour is pretty comfy in the winter time.

Love the hat, jewelry and flip flops. Maybe I'll post today as my little photographers are home.

In Texas, we wear flip flops all the time...everywhere...no matter the weather...I never put my sandals away like I do some seasonal things. They actually work with the pants! I would wear this for running errands...visting friends...to the movies..it looks great!!

I'm with Vixen on the fly. And thank you for the information--I hadn't realized what the technical difference in these fabrics was. I hadn't known velvet was originally made of silk fibres!

I love the feel of vintage velvet, aka silk velvet. The modern stuff? Not impressed. Great velour pants by the way. You are definitely rocking your boho vibe. And you wear flip-flops!
Our record-breaking cold day hit, I am wearing socks, boots, a jacket, 2 sweaters, a silk shirt, a dress, and a hat. NO FLIP FLOPS.

Happy T-day to you Reva. Wishing you an extra slice of pun'kin pie. xo.
