Eery nine-and-a-Half minutes, someone in the U.S. becomes infected with HIV,which results in more than 56,000 new infections each year. In addition, there are 1.2 million people in this country living with HIV/AIDS, Many of whom require services and support.
AS A FASHION BLOG THIS ISN'T THE USUAL PLACE FOR AIDS AWARENESS POSTS, BUT AFTER SPEAKING TO A PERSON WHO WORKS IN THE INFECTIOUS DISEASE CENTER AT U.C.,APPROXIMATELY 5 OR MORE NEW CASES OF HIV INFECTION ARE BEING ROUTED TO THEIR CLINIC EVERY WEEK- AND THAT'S IN CINCINNATI ALONE-NOT TO MENTION THE ONES WHO DON'T KNOW THEY ARE INFECTED. AS SOMEONE WHO IS FAMILIAR WITH THIS EPIDEMIC - AIDS STILL EXISTS AND IS BECOMING RENEWED DUE TO THE LACK OF AWARENESS ONCE IN THE FOREGROUND, AND JUST PLAIN FORGETFULNESS!- AIDS STILL EXISTS -PLEASE DON'T FORGET-- HIV DIDN'T GO AWAY!- IT IS STILL KILLING AND DESTROYING LIVES!- SO LET'S PULL OUT THOSE RED RIBBONS AGAIN !

"LIFE AND DEATH. ENERGY AND PEACE. IF I STOP TODAY IT WAS ALL WORTH IT. EVEN THE TERRIBLE MISTAKES I MADE AND WOULD HAVE UNMADE IF I COULD. THE PAINS THAT HAVE BURNED ME AND CARVED MY SOUL, IT WAS WORTH IT,FOR HAVING BEEN ALLOWED TO WALK WHERE I'VE WALKED, WHICH WAS TO HELL ON EARTH, HEAVEN ON EARTH, BACK AGAIN,INTO, UNDER, FAR IN BETWEEN, THROUGH IT, IN IT, AND ABOVE."
Gia Marie Carangi was an American fashion model during the late 70's to early 80's, and was considered by many as the FIRST SUPERMODEL. After she became addicted to heroin, her career rapidly declined, and she was considered the first woman to die from AIDS. In her teens she was into a group called "Bowie Kids"-into high "glam" styles. She quickly rose to fashion prominence at 17, at which time she moved to New York. She was a favorite among many photographers and frequented Studio 54. Her agent was Wilhelmena Cooper who died in 1980 of cancer. Her addiction sped down hill, leading her to rehab, and a short comeback. Her last cover was Cosmopolitan.in Winter 82. She was diagnosed with AIDS and died in 1986. Very litttle was known about the disease at that time. Her casket was closed. During her career she represented Dior, Versacci, Armani,Yves St. Laurent, Maybelline, Levi's, Diane Von Furstenburg, Vidal Sasson, among many others.(from Wikipedia)
"I think God has a plan for me, but I don't think it's in this life."
Gia Marie Carangi.
