I don't do summer....WELL....

Since Joni complained yesterday, I thought it was my turn...

Ah, Summer.

While most people are breaking out their bikinis and popping hot-dogs on the grill, I will be inside, head drooped over the AC. I don't enjoy heat - unless I'm near the ocean. Summer to me is a time of sweat, oceans of plain (non-layered) clothes, flat hair and plump white fleshy arms. Wringing my boobs out ever 10 minutes and peering down my cleavage as the sweat disappears who-knows-where...

Black becomes an enemy, and you know I LOVE black.

But, as most style-minded folks do, I try. I try and try to work a long-sleeved top while keeping 'the girls' in a supportive bra - Without dying. I wear my floppy hats and big sunnies. I am always tempted to throw caution to the wind, pitch the sunscreen and just get a damn tan. 

Sunscreen is also very HOT. 

However, as a +40 woman who overexposed herself in the 70's, I resist.

Here is my attempt to layer in the heat. I know most will disagree with my lack-luster view 
of summer, so I'm finished bitching. BUT - the next time you hear the hot-dogs sizzling, 
think of me...sizzle...sizzle...sizzle...

In it's defense,

There are a few upsides to summer, however. 

Sunglasses, soft maxi dresses, up-do's, fun nail polish and funky sandals!
Hummingbirds, the smell of freshly mown grass, and roses.

And, of course, vacations to the beach.
Every year, around this time, I consider moving to Seattle.
I wonder if Bella has a two bedroom?

It's that time of year - Festival Season!

This skirt I made out of a man's shirt. I measured, cut the top off, 

stitched a seam and added elastic. Wa-la! DIY and DONE!

I see many more of these in my summer future!

I also found the vest at the same thrift shop a few weeks later. 

It was just too kitschy to pass up. 

It could be worn with a simple tank as well. 

Add boots and a few feathers and done.

Well, that's my "Any Trend Can Be Thrifted" this week. 

I'm already running out of thoughts.

Make You Own Scarf Tunic!

I have always had a fondness for sarongs and scarves. Since I have so many, it's fun to play with them, especially when I come up with a new way to wear one. This scarf was on sale at Dot's for $7 bucks. It is very sheer and about 4 feet wide when pulled loose. I can even wear it as a skirt! 

HOW:

Start from behind - Wrap it around your chest, gather top of scarf at front of neck, twist, tie and wrap around your neck - Tie. Then tie a small knot at the bottom front to pull it in a bit.(I hope that made sense). Wa-La! A new, fresh and frugal summer top. A short sarong would work, too. It's super easy and under 8 bucks! It's also a great look with a tee or without. I prefer the tee for bra strap coverage ;)

The Religion of Blogging

I wandered in, (off the sofa), not knowing what I was seeking. I wast lost....

I needed salvation. 

Freedom from the misleading world of blah fashion and football helmut hair. 

Little did I know that my faith would be tested in a way that would leave me forever changed.

 I entered the Temple of Blogger.

I was on a mission. I was searching for the Almighty flow of the One. Creativity. The great inspirer. At first, as with any new religion, I was baffled at their way of life. But something was still attracting me to the flock. I wanted what they had.
Confidence, self-appreciation, and an outlet to share my creativity...

At first, I stumbled. I was still lost, until....

I learned of The Commandments of Blogging.

Now, as most 'commandments' go, I chose to follow some - was unaware of some - and broke many of them along the path of righteousness. A few I had to learn the hard way, the rest came through faith...

They are as such:

Though shalt use no graven image other than thine own.

Though shalt not steal other's original ideas.

Though shalt credit all images to their original source.

Remember to post faithfully.
Let there be plenty of light when taking thy photos.

Though shalt remain true to thyself, lest you will be a spreader of falsehood.

You keep what you have by commenting back. Share with others. Tithe. 

Do not blast from the mountain tops your favorite hymns. That should be kept private unless you warn other's...

The Church of Blog is only for the strong hearted.

The religion of The Blog can be a tough road to travel. Many get Sainted, while many get lost - never to be heard from again. It takes a really special Blogger to become canonized. I only know of two. I hope their journey beyond the Great Blog was a peaceful one. Some just glide along, simply pleased to be a member of such a creative group. I suppose that would be the congregation I reside in.

Yes, I have stumbled-as many do 
from time to time when their faith is tested. 
I've had the "WHY Me's" and the secret prayer 
to be a better blogger.
I've placed other's on a throne. 
I've lusted in my heart, 
seen the green-eyed demon, ENVY, 
and I've been humbled all within a week.

Curly Top / Floral Jacket

Hi all!

I wore this outfit the day my hubby went out of town. He just loves this wig as much as I do.
I actually had this hair in the 80's, but my hair grows so fast, I was curly on the bottom, straight on top within a couple months! So the 'weave' wiglet is a nice, 
funky change without the hassle of another perm.
It's so great to be back home. Ya know what they say - Home is where your stuff is!
(I actually have a new haircut, though do layers count as a real cut?)
