STURGIS ANTIQUE MALL GOODIES

Here are a few of many shots I took while at the Sturgis Antique Mall, KY.- There are so many goodies in there, I am blown away! The old camera was in perfect condition, with case and lenses! The "headequin" is one of my favs., but she is not for sale! This mall is in western Ky, in a town of about 2500 folks.  Sturgis is where i grew up, and the mall is  in the old sewing factory in which my Mom worked, amist corn fields and coal mines! My outfit was a combo of heavy cotton tights in burgundy, a colorful cotton skirt, a burgundy scarf, grape beret and top under a grey sweater with a fur-lined vest. I ended up sweating as the heat was blaring inside the mall, but I just started stripping off layers.

DEC. SHOPPING TRIP SNAPS AT PARENTS

back to the city!

my outfits.

 my dad.

The other pics are of my mom and me and a special kitten called buddy. he is soooo cute! When i travel i always pack way too much. The weather was so cold, thus lots of sweaters and layers! I usually don't do jeans much, but this trip called for it!! The photo of my dad is so funny as he is wearing a thrifted hat i bought for a dollar! It is really cool, suede and wool. He normally wears baseball style caps, so this was anew look for him!!

lots of old homes. my lunch!

corn fields.
This is a coal-belt. It runs for many miles from the mines to the Ohio river
where it is loaded onto coal barges for transport. My Dad and Brother
and many relatives were coal miners. A very tough job. This post was
the trip to my parent's. My outfit was dedicated to my Dad and my Old
Kentucky Home! I can't wait to post the pics from the Sturgis Antique Mall!

THE BOHEMIAN

Me on my road trip.

So nice to be home. I have lots of fun thrifties to post, but road trips, especially long ones, give me time to reflect and ponder the meanings of life. This blog has been making me ask myself, who am I, really? The last trip I took, I met a wonderful old-school photographer, this trip I met a published writer (in a mall while complimenting me on my outfit!). As you will know if u read my blogs, I love music, art, and I see fashion as an extension of art and souls. When I was young all i wanted was to "fit". As i've grown older i think of myself as an old hippie, a bo-ho gal. If u read the history of the bohemian lifestyle, that "tag" certainly should be sewn into the neck of my shirt.I have always been a Gypsie, unsettled, an artist with a full soul. This can lead to troublesome times, but also to glorious moments. I NEED to keep  moving but can get stuck in the mud. Luckily i was given the gift of 4-wheel-drive! My soul weeps, My soul giggles. That is truly a full closet! So, I give you some pics of Mata Hari, the alleged double-agent of WWI. Just look at her beauty, her style. She was truly a legend of Boho! My outfit was thrifted and i couldn't wait to post it. The sky was sooo beautiful that day, The deepest blue i've ever seen. What a trip! Can't wait to show off my goodies. Next post!

BIG THRIFTED PEARLS/ OUT OF TOWN SHOPPING!

Well, I'm off to see my Mom tomorrow to go
shopping and THRIFTING, yah! The trip takes
about 5 hrs. I did a bit of thrifting already, thus the
huge dbl. strand of pearls. One shot is "doctored",
one isn't. Can you tell which one! I am not
"comfortable" with my laugh lines yet! I do love the
pearls, though! Bye for a few!

BOHO HIPPIE/ SIDE KNOTTED MAXI DRESS

This outfit was a take on one I saw a few weeks back and loved the idea, so I put my spin on it. I tied a knot in the side of a maxi-dress,( like we used to tie knots in the sides of our t-shirts in the 80's). The dress is cotton jersey from Target. I put it over a basic white long sleeve T, my faux lined Old Navy vest, and added my new treat, this pashmina scarf I bought at Kroger(I KNOW!) with burnt orange, black and greens. The dress is actually a  very dk. green, and my fav. banana republic boots. I added a thumb ring and some black beaded bracelets. I've been feeling a bit hippie-boho nostalagia lately. I usually have Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana or Chris Cornell in my C.D. player in my car--maybe that's my inspiration. The holidays always make me nostalgic for the good ole days!

MIND GRAFFITI in a pink dress

I hope these images express how beautiful this graffiti mural was. When I left the house this afternoon, it was the coldest day yet and felt like snow was afoot. As a blogger you generally never leave without a camera and a tri-pod, and my goal was to photograph my brown fishnets over pink leggings with a pink dress I found while cleaning out my closet. It was hidden behind a big pile of sweaters, and I thought I had lost it. So as I was driving to university neighborhood, listening to Chris Cornell Unplugged, wearing my 15 yr. old dress, I suddenly became romantically, thrashingly nostalgic. I felt the rumble in my heart that put the G in grunge. The unsettling but wonderful feeling of being  alive. Really alive. Needing to turn the music so loud it made my windows shake in my mini-station wagon! Remembering how free I felt when I was really poor, and first in love with my husband, living in his one room apartment with my stuff piled around the walls and 2 cats- one in heat! as well as both of us! I treasure this afternoon as it reminds me of the mystery of life and love. The joy that can't be bought in a store. The graffiti in my mind and soul is priceless.         Reva:)

FAUX VINTAGE T/ TURKEY SALAD RECIPE

Here's a simple recipe for that left-over turkey-

  • chopped turkey
  • green onions
  • mayo
  • raisins or grapes(cut in two)
  • walnut pieces
  • mix and serve(i like it on a croissant)
  • yummm!

This outfit is a faux vintage T over a summer dress.
I got hooked on the T's. I wintererized it with black
leggings and a long sleeve black T with a pashmina
and red shoes.

LONG BLACK CORDUROY SKIRT PHOTO

If you haven't seen this by now just start surfing! It's everywhere! How clever is this guy! The funny part for me is that i OWN a long, black corduroy skirt and i think it looks cute with brown belt and boots!

DARK FLORAL COTTON WITH VEST AND FAUX VINTAGE EARRINGS

This outfit is a bunch of
dark colors. I can't decide which piece is my fav., so it would be the vintage-inspired jewelry. And the real vintage purse. And my dbl. strap M.J.s. I have finally wrangled my closet into at least being able to see what i have. P.S.  these earrings came from big lots!

Ever have one of those days where u don't feel well?
The closet seems to be humming "pick me", but you just can't. So I'm in my P.J'.s taking a fashion pill. looking over blogs and giving u a peek into the insanity that is my closet! I've been cleaning it out for a week and am almost finished. I'm posting one of my KISS outfits, too- (KEEP ITSIMPLE SILLY). Gonna get a bubblle bath and try to feel better.and, why the heck is my text underlined?! anyhoo! --Kisses to ya!          Reva
