Purple and Pinks

 As I'm posting this, the sun is calling us out, though yesterday I was ducking and dodging rain to pop off these photos :) It was really chilly too, but a sequined scarf and feathers made the day much brighter. 

I am going through my maxi's, trying to find new and different ways to wear them and it been challenging. I'm trying to think outside the box, so we'll see. I swear, i think i could just do maxi's all summer!

HI EVERYBODY !!!
TGIF AND BETTER YET, IT'S MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND. ACTUALLY, IT'S BEEN A B-DAY WEEK :) MY FANTABULOUS HUBBY HAS BEEN SPENDING THE WEEK WITH ME DOING STUFF I REALLY ENJOY, AS IN SHOPPING AND EVEN BEARING THRIFT STORES. HE'S A REAL TROOPER. 

THE ICING ON THE PROVERBIAL CAKE WAS THAT I GOT HIT ON NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE IN THE SAME DAY ! NOW AS A 40+, THAT CAN BECOME A RARE EVENT, AND THE FIRST 'HITTER-ONNER' WAS YOUNG ENOUGH TO BE MY SON (GRANDSON?)....
IT WAS ESPECIALLY FUNNY WHEN HE ASKED IF I HAD A BOYFRIEND, AND I SAID "NO, BUT MY HUSBAND IS IN THE FITTING ROOM TRYING ON JEANS" ;)
AH, IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS AND MY HUBS CONGRATULATED ME.

TONIGHT WE ARE GOING TO A CHARITY DRAG SHOW TO RAISE MONEY FOR AFSP (AMERICAN FOUNDATION FOR SUICIDE PREVENTION), AT THE YADDA CLUB IN COVINGTON, KY, SO I GOTTA BOLT, AND HAVE MY SINGLES READY :)

IT HAS BEEN BARELY OVER A YEAR SINCE I STARTED BLOGGING AND

BEING WELL INTO THE NEW YEAR, I WANTED TO SHARE SOME OBSERVATIONS RE:

THE BLOG-O-SPHERE !

I AM NO EXPERT, NOW WILL I 'NAME NAMES', 

BUT THIS IS WHAT I HAVE NOTICED THIS FIRST YEAR....

WHEN I STARTED, THERE WERE THE BIGGIES, THE MIDDLE-OF-THE-ROADIES AND THE NEWBIES  ( like Me... )
I WAS IMMEDIATELY DRAWN TO THE BIG GIRLS. THEY SEEMED TO HAVE THEIR SH@T TOGETHER. 
I WAS ALSO DRAWN TO THE NEWBIE, AS WE WERE ALL STRUGGLING TO GET OUR BLOGS NOTICED.

THE BLOGS THAT REALLY GOT MY ATTENTION WERE THE UNIQUE ONES. ESPECIALLY A BLOG THAT WAS CONSISTENT, QUIRKY AND HAD A STRONG SENSE OF PERSONAL  STYLE. THUS, MOST OF THE BIGGIES ( who rarely , if ever, visited me anyway ... ) KINDA JUST FELL AWAY. 
NOT THAT THEY WERE 'BAD' OR ANYTHING, I JUST LEFT BECAUSE I FELT A SENSE OF DISCONNECT.
TOO MANY ADS, TOO MANY CONTESTS, TOO MUCH ....

TRUE CONFESSIONS ~
HOWEVER, THERE WERE A HANDFUL OF BLOGS THAT WERE GROWING SO FAST MY HEAD WAS SPINNING! WHAT DID THEY HAVE THAT I DIDN'T ??? 
WE STARTED AROUND THE SAME TIME, WORE SIMILAR CLOTHES ......
I FELL IN LINE, MARCHED TO THEIR TUNE, COPIED THEIR LOOKS ;)
I HIT WEARDROBE, CHICTOPIA, AND EVEN BLOGGED IN A MAGAZINE....
SO WHY WASN'T I A BIG-TIMER ???

WHEN IT HIT ME !

WHEN I FINALLY FELT I HAD CREATED A "SUCCESSFUL" BLOG, ( WHICH IN NO WAY IS COUNTED BY FOLLOWERS NOR COMMENTS PER POST, THOUGH THAT IS A HUGE PART OF IT...)   BUT I FELT I WAS BEGINNING TO ACHIEVE MY GOALS ( DOING SOMETHING I LOVED AND FEELING PROUD OF IT )   
WAS WHEN I SMILED A REAL SMILE. NOT A FORCED SMILE . 
THAT SIMPLE. 
WHEN I STOPPED BEING SO DAMN VAGUE THAT I AM 46 !!!
WHEN I STOPPED PUTTING ON FULL-BLOWN WAR PAINT ,( which was a chore for me ) - now I rarely wear make-up anymore ... (disclaimer: lipstick is always a must, otherwise i look kinda dead)
 AND WHEN I ADMITTED THAT I AM A REAL PERSON WHO CAN LAUGH AT MYSELF OR CRY ~
( depending on the day ;) . 
WHEN MY PHOTOS STOPPED BEING EXACTLY 1/4 " AT THE TOP BY 1/2 " ON THE SIDES. 
 ( though don't get me wrong, I appreciate a good photo, it's my thing ;)
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: LISTENING , INSTEAD OF SHOUTING, "LOOK AT ME!"
SEEMS SO VERY SIMPLE, HUH ?

I DO STILL VISIT A COUPLE BIG GIRLS, BUT I DO IT TO SEE THEIR COOL OUTFITS , THEIR UNIQUE PHOTOS AND THERE IS ONE IN PARTICULAR THAT MAKES ME LAUGH OUT LOUD. ( who doesn't need a good dose of humor ? )


NO, I DON'T SEE MYSELF AS A BIG-TIMER,
NOR DO I NEED TO BE ANYMORE ....
BEING "FRINGY" IS GREAT AND ALLOWS ME TO EXPERIMENT, MAKE LASTING FRIENDSHIPS,

I COULDN'T PASS ON SHOWING THIS OUTFIT, ESPECIALLY FOR JOY, IN HONOR OF HER FLORAL TIGHTS :)  ~ TODAY I WILL BE BACK ON SCHEDULE ( or as close to one as I can be ;)

I THRIFTED THIS CORDUROY JACKET WHILE ON A THRIFT-DATE WITH THE LOVELY KASMIRA, fellow Cincinnati Blogger Extraordinaire. IT IS CUT TO GIVE ME A MUCH NEEDED WAIST AND IT HAS THE KILLER ELBOW PATCH. I HAD ALMOST FORGOTTEN TO SHOW MY ELBOW, AS I AM STILL LEARNING HOW TO HIDE THE TIMER ( well, kinda....)
And my new battery finally arrived , ( it was dying a slow, unfocused death ) , RIP old battery. I wonder if I can make something with it?... A Pendant, perhaps? Nah. Battery gunk all over my tops....

What I Wore On My Anniversary / Nieves Lavi Dress

Words cannot express the wonderful evening my Husband and I had Sunday, nor can they express the glory of this faboo dress ;)  ~ Yes, I can be shallow, but if you only knew how long I've waited for a special occasion to wear it. I thrifted this Nieves Lavi silk jersey dress this summer for 4 dollars   ( Who throws this stuff out ??? ) and have been petting it, lovingly eyeing it, and almost sleeping with it for 6 months ;) I knew it was "high-end" the minute I spied it and after looking it up, I am flabbergasted that someone actually gave it away. I can't find the pattern description , nor what year it was produced, but as far as I can tell, it may be the " Nirvana" print. Any clues ?  Ahhh..... silk jersey........ my new favorite ~

The dress wraps around my waist 3 times, plus a super-long tie in the back and luckily has a hidden zipper for quick escape.

I am not a "label" person and actually thought it was a poly-blend from possibly the 70's .............

OK, the evening was wonderful as well, with lobster tails and shrimp, cheesecake and kisses ...............

I have been asked to tell our love story, but will save it for tomorrow .

( I had a shoe issue, black or brown boots ~ heels or not ~ but I let Hubs decide what he liked :)

Plus, I slutted it up with my over-the-knee socks, which I love ......

I wore 2 charm bracelets and simple coppertone dangles as not to distract from the dress.

WOW, I can't believe John Lennon was born exactly 70 years ago today. AND he was killed in December 30 friggin' years ago! I was only sixteen when it happened, and as an avid rock fan, this day is a somber, memory invoking one. Most blogger's weren't even alive in December of 1980. Honestly, back then I didn't grasp the impact of such a waste until I got older.

I wonder what he would be thinking and doing Today ? Would he still be living in New York, or even in the U.S ?  Would  "Give Peace a Chance" and "All You Need is Love" still be his mantras ? Just think how small the world has become since then. I wonder what his thoughts would have been on stuff like 9/11, or the war in Iraq. Or Afghanistan ? Would he have written a song about the release of Mandela ?  Maybe he'd be a Missionary .........
