"Why yes, I do!"

Hi everybody!
Thanks for the nice thoughts sent out my way yesterday. It was just one of those days...
Ya know- The other day at the doctor's office, a lady told me that I reminded her
of her daughter. Of course, instead of 'thanks', I asked why.
"Do you shop in thrift stores?" she asked. "Why yes I do!"
"You look so neat and hip. My daughter loves thrift stores." she said.
My ego was flattered. I think...
We proceeded to chat about how finding things in a thrift store gives you more choices, more unique style and we even talked about 'cookie cutter' fashion!
A stranger told me she hated looking like everybody else and liked thrift store
fashion as much as I do. Thank you strange, friendly lady!
These are the thing that make my love of "Style Art" so exciting and rewarding.
These are the things I should dwell on. Positive feelings... A stroke or two never hurts ;)
Thanks, Zen Master - It really is about the style, not the body wearing it!
skirt as dress; $3.00 cheapo fashion shop / shoes; Glo / scarf; thrifted / beret; Sears, clx.

Have you guys figured out who my mentor is yet?
I LOVE her and,
I'll never tell....

Bohemian Earth Tones

Hi everybody !
Thanks for all the great comments yesterday :) You made my day!

The costume was completely made from recycled plastic bags. I had to staple myself into the dress, but it was worth every minute :) There are so many lovely bloggers that would rock a trash bag, but I couldn't get anyone to do it for me, so I did it myself ;) Lady Ga Green may show up again sometime in the future :)

Now on to today's outfit post :)

This idea came from a bunch of different style trends. First, the "dress over a dress", then the "skirt as a dress". I then combined a look from "The Uniform Project" (year one) and added the tied thin poncho scarf. And last, but not least, the earthy tones of this fall .
I've almost given this heavy cotton skirt away a dozen times, but just can't part with it just yet ;)
It's tribal / indian print is one of my favorite patterns. I suppose I am the Bohemian Hippie Chick. With my usual "twist' ;)  ~ I like the fullness of the skirt/dress. It adds to the hippie vibe ;)  And everything but the poncho/boots are thrifted.  Bless you, Goodwill  :) ~ And Hey, I match my garage .... Wasn't even trying ;)

earrings: Dot's: $3.oo
boots: Banana Republic /Gap outlet: gift from hubby :)
choker: self-made from "parts"
pendant: World Market
sunnies: Foster Grant, drug store
bangles:JCPenny's, clx.

Bitty-Bitty had to make an appearance ;)
I needed to twirl !
Have a great week :)

Granny Chic Layers

I feel kinda Granny Chic in this outfit, but honestly, I really dig it :) It's a strapless cotton tunic over a skirt with my favorite cardi over it. This isn't a "get my money's worth" outfit, just a comfy alternative to sweats. Since my adventures in Blogdonia, this length seems really long ;)  The shoes, however are kick-ass, as Granny shoes go. I popped on my vintage green sunnies and a seventies flower brooch for good measure. I think that upped the cool factor a bit. All the style mags., or at least the 15 or so I checked out of the library, says lower heels are back. Woo-hoo. Could this be a marketing strategy perhaps ???
( Kick-ass shoes : ) Kind of a 70's vibe, but with kitten heels. Thrifted, of course :)
And sadly, little Monkey will be going to a new home tomorrow. There is nothing more precious and funny than a kitten !
He has been so much fun to watch and play with. And always in motion :)
Next week I am gonna pass on some of my tips on this fall's trends on the cheap. And I know cheap ;)
Bye, Monkey...................

And in Remembrance, September 11, 2001
The day time stood still. I bet no one will ever forget where or what you were doing on this day, at this time.
My Mom called me and said, "Go to the T.V." I watched in horror for days.
Peace to you all today.

Silk Skirt as Dress / Tips / Ramblings

YES I CAN !

The words " Baby doll " or " Umpire Waist " have always made me shiver. "Skirt-as-a-dress" can even be a tricky monster , but I've learned a bit about how to make this look work, without people asking me when I'm Due. Thanks alot people! It's not polite to ask someone that anyway!
I have found that for someone like me, who sports a D cup and belly, I avoid pleats or elastic directly beneath the girls. Any high waisted look seems to work better if the fullness is kept to a minimum. A bigger belt will soften the fullness and hold down the fabric. Also, using electrical tape to hold down the dress also eliminates Pregger belly! Just tape some strips lengthwise close to the bottom of the dress ! It weighs it down !

My newest discovery is to wear thick elastic waist skirts instead of traditional babydolls. I wear them LOWER than my underarms. Wearing the elastic across the largest part of the breast actually makes the "dress" look better! I pin it in place with safety pins. The fabric needs to be silk or rayon to avoid the puffiness of cotton. Jersey is a great choice, too. I pull the skirt about an inch or two lower than my arm pit.

My girls seem to actually look small ! Yah! ( One of my body-image issues )

This skirt is silk and thrifted for 3 bucks. I like the tribal print and the boho vibe .
Paired with my new fav. locket from targei' , a long chain and groovy gold-toned earrings, my go-to black T, and fav. boots with no socks for a change!

I pinned a flower in my hair, and wore my big turquoise ring.
( Note the Big vein ? From wearing high heels on concrete for work ! Beware ! )

Also, beware of hair color that says Ash or Cool. Now I gotta go get it re-done !
Nothing ventured , Nothing gained !

A vest is another way to keep the Pregger Look away!
Hope these tips are helpful !

Balls To The Wall !

Ramblings I am proud of :  I finally did it ! I did alot of reading commentaries , checking out other cool blogs and discovering new blogs over the past few days. I saw Another blogger calling it quits, another blogger who actually has a real photographer and stylist for Christ sakes ! I read about blogger envy and jealousy. You name it !  Well, suddenly I got the balls ( or steel ovaries) to write an e-mail to a large group site. I voiced my opinion , hopefully in a respectful way. I am getting so uninspired by all the sites who appear to be in it only for Money. For Fame and Notoriety. What has happened to the creative inspiration that was always available to the "regular" gal ? The inventive looks of so many talented people who are getting lost by the way-side because their photos aren't Magazine quality ? The looks I miss because they didn't get enough popularity "votes" or "points" ?  Because the look wasn't something that could be bought through an Ad link ?

My opinion is just that , an opinion. Is Fashion blogging a competition or an Inspirational community ?
I'd love to hear what you think . I don't "trash talk" others and to each his own , but I was and still am ticked.
I love to be inspired. I love great photos. I love trend-setters. I also can look past the "Glossy" and see the Creativity .  So, as in the card game "Euchre" , I just went Balls to the Wall !

LAYERS AND PATTERNS - a skirt as a dress

My fascination with all the cool layering possibilities, led me to this outfit.A post on Weardrobe by AdoredAustin (I think) was my inspiration. Looving the socks/tights/boots combos, coupled with a skirt as dress from my Mom's closet! Thanks, Mom!

added white dangle earrings to pull the eye to the sox.

I played off all the colors in the dress/skirt.The turtleneck is a blue, the vest is black, to cover the top of skirt. Green tights added with white sox and white earrings. Added short boots so u could see the sox. Added the belt to pull in the skirt and give a more hourglass shape. I also "winterized " it as the temps. are low!

My inspiration.
