Road Trips , Forced Meditation , and an Old Floral Dress

A long road trip is a great time for meditation , reflection , listening to the Blues, and finding how difficult going back home can be. I really needed this trip. To regroup, and recharge my internal batteries. It's always a bitter-sweet trip , as my parents are aging , but also a good place to be. The country fields were freshly plowed , and the sunsets seem so much bigger in the country.

Upon arriving at my Parent's house , I sat outside and rested . Thoughts still running through my head , but feeling worn out from the 6 hr. car trip , I snapped some photos of my outfit while my Mom prepared dinner.

A Vintage Ford tractor fender made for an appropriate backdrop !

My outfit was a tiered late 80's dress , Vintage scarf , black tights and brown sandals , along with my Grandmother's necklace.

This pendant was handed down to me from my Grandmother and is probably from the 40's Era.

This is my Dad's current project . The Vintage Tractor .
Vintage definitely runs in the family !

Thus began my week . I am really tired tonight , and have little to say other than I miss my Parents right now. I arrived home a couple hours ago and am gonna catch up with my Hubby tonight . I hope you will enjoy my trip photos as I post them later , and my ramblings will be more inspired . Plus I got tons of thrifties I can't wait to wear ! Like a trench for 6 bucks, lots of skirts, scarves, a couple dresses , accessories and more !

You can go home again , but it's nice to be back in MY home , too !

Off To See My Parents / Thrifting and Antique Heaven !

My Mom at Sixteen in a self-made dress.

I'm off to visit my parents. I am a terrible packer . I have a big bag of clothes, another for shoes, another for accessories / undies , and my cosmetic bag , not to  mention my camera bag ( which holds 2, and a tri-pod ). Hey, ya never know what you'll need while away ! I think the kitchen sink might fit in my garment bag!

A few outfits I am taking :

Something really Springy! A 80's smock-style dress and vintage pearls.

Another sundress thrifted , originally from the Limited, a thrifted Blazer with a yummy texture, and a thrifted cameo of a dancing couple.

A vintage cream sweater with pearl buttons and a thrifted Banana Republic skirt.

Which the cameo will also match.

And my bookmark , for my journal sums it all up !

I NEED THIS TRIP!
See ya next week !

I'm Every Age I've Ever Been / Pink Tights and Vintage Brooches

My first Designer Brooch . A Lucky Locket Kiddle by Mattel !  We called them Little Kiddles . This is one of the few toys I still have from my early childhood . On the back , it even has the year it was made , 1966. Yep , I'm "vintage" , too ! One of my favorite quotes is " I am every age I've ever been ". I believe that's true of all women . I'm still a little girl who likes to play dress up , a rebel without a cause , a rebel WITH a cause , a lover , a strong leader , an artist , musician , someone who laughs at inappropriate times , one who aches when others are hurting , one who throws things when she gets mad  , and whines when she doesn't get what she thinks she wants , but who can still "bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan "!  I hope I stay young , even when I am an old cat lady who wears pink tights and bright red lipstick on her thin lips . I hope my wrinkles are from laughing so hard !

My outfit is my paper-bag waist skirt , my first skirt sewing project , which will be sewn properly this week by my Mom . I added hot pink tights and sandals , a sleeveless cream sweater , and my fav. thrifted cross pendant . It's a ringing in Spring outfit . My bags are packed , my house is in order , time to hit the road .
See you next week !

Other ways I've worn this crazy skirt .

Have a Sunny , Funny March Weekend !

SIMPLE GREEN AND BLACK LAYERS

Wind and a vintage Scarf !

A Pink Beret .

A Black and Gray Cardigan.

A Heart Shaped brooch.

Green leggings and Brown boots with white socks.

A white cardigan underneath and my black tunic dress over a forest green turtleneck.

And green and copper dangle earrings.

A simple outfit for running errands . I believe this scarf was originally made for a man , thus making it wider and longer . Not alot to say today . Getting prepared for my trip and feeling a cold coming on = Oh NO !
The layers were warm and cozy . I think I'll have some warm cocoa !

SEVENTIES VINTAGE CORDUROY SKIRT and Ramblings

Religion and Fashion make clever bed fellows !  I saw this photo last year and have kept it since .  I'm sure you saw it too . Of course , first I rolled my eyes ( at the sign on the right ) , then I burst into laughter as this clever guy made his own sign !  Then , I thought , " I own a corduroy skirt ! "  I'm now wearing it ! After keeping it the original length for a while , I got brave, cropped and hemmed it . I like the result . It's originally from the early 70's with a very high waist . Normally , high waists scare me , ( it's a body proportion thing - my top is "heavy " , with a thick waist . But , paired with a simple white top I liked it . Plus , pockets good , and it's very full - giving my body an hour-glass illusion . I have a long , black cord skirt , too, but it hasn't struck my fancy to wear as of late .

I also like the 3 buttons and zipper on the waist . Sorry about the fill - flash , but boy has it been dreary !

I'd normally wear boots , but my double strapped Mary Janes were a nice change. I added a brown and pink scarf to break up the plain neckline , plus when you hit a certain age , turtle necks and scarves are your friend ;-)

RAMBLINGS :  Over the weekend , my creativity was waning , though I did a Sharpie Tight . My hubs and I watched movies and spent time together as I will be going out of town soon . For all the 80's wear novices I can sum up the Eighties in a hand full of movies .

If you want to look "cool " :  1. The Lost Boys
                                            2. Pretty in Pink
                                            3. St. Elmo's Fire
                                            4. Any brat pack movie
                                            5. Purple Rain
                                            6. Any Madonna video
If you want to look "powerful " : 1. Nine to Five
                                                 2. The Dynasty / Dallas T.V. series
That sums up the eighties in a nutshell . (We watched The Lost Boys last night). My favorite look in the 80's was the permed mullet , with a "tail" of course , ( Think early Prince ) , An oversized  purple , black, blue plaid shirt that would easily be a xxl now, black leggings with black lace-up wrestling shoes or untied high-top sneakers, big white smuched down socks, and giant plastic square cut-out stud style earrings or one single dangle in one ear only !  This inevitably led to grunge . After all the self-obsession of the 80's and way too much excess , ( Think Miami Vice ) , grunge seemed to lead to a time of self-reflection and re-prioritizing , the less is more approach to fashion and the "I'm Not O.K." of music.

Now , it seems that society is again running from the needy nineties, into a self-expression period , much like the 80's departure . I try not to get political or too reflective in a "style' blog , but I am so hopeful and excited about the 10's ! I see imagination, I see creativity, less "branding", more young people Deciding to be Who they are , whether it be Retro , Vintage ,  DIY ,  Boho or the latest look I love "country rebel"  from who else ? F21 . It seems that style is becoming Personal , not one-size-fits-all ! When I scope the internet , I see every style imaginable out there right now ! I think that's exciting !

 Country Rebel from Forever 21.

I love this dress !

An Alexander McQueen .
