EASY DIY TURBANS / TREND ALERT weekend drive-by .....

HI EVERYONE !!!
THIS IS THE YEAR OF THE TURBAN, AND IT IS AN EASY, THRIFTY WAY TO DON A NEW TREND WHILE HIDING YOUR ROOTS (OR DIRTY, SWEATY HAIR ;)
THERE ARE MANY OUT THERE, BUT WITH MY IMAGINATION, I FOUND WAYS TO WEAR THEM THAT ARE SUPER EASY AND CHEAP!

ALL YOU NEED ARE THIN OR COTTON WRAPS AND A BIT OF PATIENCE. THE KEY TO THE TURBAN LOOK IS HEIGHT AND FULLNESS, UNLIKE THE FUNKY SCARFS.
FOR THIS TYPE, I TOOK A VERY LONG TEE SHIRT PASMINA/SCARF ABOUT 6 FT. LONG/2 FT.WIDE. START AT THE BACK, AND WRAP AROUND YOUR HEAD. THEN START TWISTING THE REMAINING FABRIC TIGHTLY WOUND AND KEEP ON WRAPPING, KEEPING THE ROLLS TAUGHT AND THEN START TUCKING.
THAT'S IT!
THE BIGGEST THING TO REMEMBER IS TO TUCK THE "LOOSE" ENDS AND BOO-BOO'S UNDER AND CREATE HEIGHT. A FEW TRIES AND ANYONE CAN BE AN EXPERT. REMEMBER, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO LOOK PERFECT.

 THIS BOHO LOOK
IS GREAT FOR MAXI'S,
PLATFORMS,
AND LIKE RACHEL ZOE,
HUGE SUNNIES ;)
REMEMBER,
HEIGHT IS KEY
TO MAKING IT LOOK
LIKE A REAL TURBIN...

HERE ARE SOME OTHER TURBAN LOOKS
ANIMAL PRINTS !!!

DIFFERENT WAYS TO WRAP YOUR TURBAN
TURBANS:
If you’re short on time, exhausted or not feeling well, but want to look put-together, a turban may be a good choice. This quick, inexpensive head covering comes with endless styling options.

Turban Styling Tips

  • Buy a ready-made turban or create one of your own by wrapping a 38” scarf or bandana around your head and tying securely.

  • Choose colors that flatter your skin tone and accentuate your style.

  • Try different styles of turbans – some come with bangs or other hairpieces.

  • Use a turban to protect your scalp and keep your head warm while you sleep.

  • To add height to a turban, try pinning an unused shoulder pad inside, at the crown of the head. Secure it with a cotton headband or wig cap.

  • Personalize your turban with pins, clip earrings, and scarves.

T SHIRT TURBIN:

A T-Shirt wrap looks like a cotton turban with a matching headband. This inexpensive, casual head covering works wonders in the spring and summer – and can be made at home in a matter of minutes.

How to Create a T-Shirt Wrap

How to Create a T-Shirt Wrap

  1. Start by cutting straight across the shirt, just under the sleeves. You should be left with a smaller piece that includes the neckband and sleeves, and a bigger fabric tube.

  2. Take the hemline of the tube and center it on your forehead at the hairline.

  3. Hold each side of the tube at the back of your head and create a figure eight by crossing the fabric in the right hand over the left.

  4. With the fabric crossed, twist the fabric upward, and pull the lower half of the figure eight from the back of your head to the front. This creates a halo or headband effect. Tuck any extra fabric under the twisted band.

  5. Just like a turban, a T-shirt wrap may be accented with bangs and other hairpieces.

The sleeves of the T-shirt may be re-purposed as headbands or wig caps.
SCARF TECHNIQUES

Bow

Tie ends in a half-knot. Form the first loop with the lower tied end. Then bring the other end over and around the first loop and continue partially through the opening that is formed, making the knot and second loop. Flare the loops and spread center.

Fold a large square diagonally, drape it low over your forehead, and try some of the following techniques.
  • Looping: Tie the ends in a bow over the point.

  • Bundling: Knot the ends, fold the point around the bundled ends, and then secure it inside the band.

WAY COOL !

ROSETTES !

  • Coiling: Cross the ends over the point and coil to the front. Intertwine, or braid, the coils to make one long, continuous band. Fold the point up into the crossed area.

Rosette

Tie a half-knot, leaving the ends long. Tightly intertwine the ends to form a coil, leaving a short length uncoiled. Relax the coil and guide it around itself. Poke the end of the coil partway through the center of the circle. Spread the sash-ends to ruffle around the rosette.

  • If the scarf is too small, fold it off-center to make a larger cap. If the ends are short, band with a second scarf and finish with a good-looking tie.

Band and Coil Techniques

  • Band: Fold opposite corners of a square to the center, overlap points, and fold again to desired width.

  • Coil: Twist a band from the center out, for an even coil. Several simple, decorative head wraps may be created this way.

( I USED THIS COIL IN MY TURBAN )

Square knot

Tie a half-knot. Bring the upper end down over the lower piece. Keep looping around the lower end and come through the opening. Flare endings and spread center knot.
BEST KNOT STYLE: SQUARE KNOT

HERE'S TO A CREATIVE WEEKEND !

ERMA BOMBECK

I GOTTA SAY A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO COMMENTED YESTERDAY ;)
IT'S FUNNY, BUT WHEN YOU START LOOKING FOR THE 'CLUES'
THAT LEAD YOU TO YOUR TRUE NATURE, THEY POP UP VERY QUICKLY.

I STARTED THE "FASHION AND PHILOSOPHY" SERIES A WHILE BACK, TO LET OTHER'S IN AND SEE WHAT MAKES ME TICK. A FORTY-SOMETHING WHO HAS THE KIND OF THOUGHTS I HOPE WE ALL HAVE, AND A VENUE FOR SHARING THE SOLUTIONS TO THOUGHTS AND QUESTIONS REGARDING ART AND STYLE FOR THE OVER-40 CROWD, OR ANYONE WHO SHARES MY PASSION FOR FASHION (WHICH INVOLVES REACHING DEEPER THAN MY CLOSET SOMETIMES).

THE FIRST CLUE WAS IN THE WONDERFUL COMMENTS
WHICH GAVE ME A SENSE OF FRIENDSHIP AND SUPPORT.
THE OTHER WAS THE LOST FOLLOWER I GOT ;)
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, FOR THE FIRST TIME,
THE LACK OF SELF-DOUBT THAT CAME WITH IT.
SO, THE CLUES I RECEIVED WERE TO DO AND BE WHATEVER I CHOOSE AND STOP WORRYING SO MUCH ABOUT THE SMALL STUFF AND JUST CREATE.
(THE ORIGINAL GOAL OF THIS BLOG IN THE FIRST PLACE)....

SO AS A WANNA-BE PHOTOGRAPHER,
I MOVED MY CAMERA WAY UP HIGH ONTO A TABLE AND BEGAN TO SHOOT. AFTERWARDS, I PUT MY ON MY HEADPHONES, AND BEGAN TO LISTEN TO THE BLUES, WATER MY SOUL AND ENJOY CREATING JUST FOR THE SAKE OF CREATING. WITH LACE AND HARLEY BOOTS, MY HAT AND FREEDOM FROM MY SELF-DOUBT, HERE ARE SOME SHOTS I REALLY LIKE. (PLUS I WAS HAVING A REALLY GOOD HAIR DAY ;) ALL IMAGES WERE
SELF-EDITED, TOO !
(YES, I AM BRAGGING, SO SHOOT ME)
GET IT? :) - SHOOT ME....
TOTAL IMAGES: 18
MY GOAL TO BE A PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER BY 50 IS STILL ON! (IF YOU'RE ON A FIRST-NAME BASIS WITH SANTA, PLEASE TELL HIM I NEED SOME NEW LENSES)...

ONWARD AND UPWARD,
INWARD AND OUT.....

WHEN I STAND BEFORE GOD AT THE END OF MY LIFE I WOULD HOPE THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE A SINGLE BIT OF TALENT LEFT, AND COULD SAY
"I USED EVERY THING YOU GAVE ME"

Fashion and Philosophy Series / Seasonal Introspection

HI EVERYBODY !
WELL, HERE I SIT, ANOTHER SEASON PASSED, AND TIME FOR MY "INNER-CONFLICT-SOUL-SEARCHING-WHAT-THE-HELL-IS-IT-ALL-ABOUT AND WHAT-CAN-I DO-TO-BE-A-BETTER-HUMAN" SEASONAL TURMOIL.

I STARTED THIS BLOG,
AS MOST OF YOU KNOW,
(IF NOT, HERE'S THE SKINNY)
AS A WAY TO REGAIN SOME SENSE OF PURPOSE. IT WAS A TIME OF THE USUAL CONFLICTS THAT SNEAK UP ON US "40 SOMETHINGS"...
WANTING NEEDING TO GET BACK IN TOUCH WITH MY CREATIVE SIDE,
NEEDING A MAJOR LIFE RENOVATION...
A SOUL COLONIC,  IF YOU WILL...
I KNEW I LOVED PHOTOGRAPHY
AND SEE FASHION AS ANOTHER FORM OF ART.

I KNEW THIS WOULD BE A GREAT VENUE TO START.
TWO LOVES ROLLED INTO ONE...
BUT, LATELY, I AM FEELING A BIT ON THE "EMPTY" SIDE. DON'T GET ME WRONG, I LOOOOVE TAKING PHOTOS, I HAVE ABOUT 40 OUTFITS READY TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED. I HAVE THE PROPER "BLOG POSES" DOWN PAT. I LOVE AND APPRECIATE EACH AND EVERY PERSON WHO POPS BY TO SAY HI. BUT SOMETIMES I WISH I COULD ACTUALLY SIT DOWN WITH YOU, AND NOT WORRY ABOUT THE LATEST "APP" I MUST HAVE TO GROW AND SHARE MY PASSION WITH YOU AND OTHERS ....
I SUPPOSE THAT IS THE NATURE OF THINGS.
CHANGE IS THE ONLY CONSTANT.....
SO, NOW THE INNER "CONFLICT" IS BEING RETHOUGHT.
HOW DOES ONE TAKE THEMSELVES TO THE NEXT LEVEL?
AS A HUMAN BEING-
NOT IN THE ALTERNATE UNIVERSE I LOVINGLY CALL BLOGDONIA...
ALTHOUGH, THAT'S WHERE WE HAPPEN TO HAVE MET ;)

I AM SEEING A 'TREND' EVOLVING ALL OVER THE BLOG WORLD LATELY.
SOME BLOGGERS GIVING IT UP ALTOGETHER. MANY RE-THINKING THEIR ROLES AS  FASHION BLOGGERS. TWEAKING THEIR BLOGS AND SOMETIMES TAKING THEM IN A NEW DIRECTION ALTOGETHER. MAYBE THIS IS AN INEVITABLE CHANGE. AN EVOLUTION OF SORTS. I'M NOT SURE. I DO BELIEVE THAT WE OWE IT TO OURSELVES TO "CHECK IN" WITH OUR INTENTIONS EVERY SO OFTEN. I KNOW MAYBE THAT'S ALL IT IS, MAYBE NOT.
I WONDER IF THERE IS A NEW "APP"
FOR SOUL SEARCHING,
LIKE "WWW.DOTHISNEXT.COM" OR "TWEET ME, I'LL GIVE YOU FOCUS".....
WHAT I DO KNOW:
ART IS CRUCIAL FOR GROWTH AND FASHION IS ANOTHER FORM OF ART.
I DO KNOW I'M READY TO DO MORE THAN JUST "SHOW UP",
TAKING UP PRECIOUS SPACE AND OXYGEN-
BUT BEYOND THAT, I'M NOT SURE.
SO FOR NOW, I WILL KEEP SHOWING UP,
LISTENING AND LOOKING FOR THE SUBTLE 'CLUES' THAT WILL LEAD ME FORWARD TO THE FULFILLMENT I TRULY SEEK ;)
OH YEAH, AND BUY PRE-LOVED CLOTHING ;)
IS ANYONE ELSE FEELING A BIT OF PERSPECTIVE ANALYZING AS WELL ?
xXx

                                               BOOTS: PENNY'S (OLD), SCARF(OLD)

A BLESSED EVENT

HERE ARE SOME SHOTS FROM THE CONCERT;)
I HAD TO ADJUST MY OUTFIT DUE TO THE RAIN,
SO MY "GOOD" COWBOY HAT HAD TO STAY HOME....
IT'S FUNNY, AS I AM VERY ANTI-COUNTRY MUSIC, BUT LUCINDA'S WRITING AND HER ROCKIN BLUES INSPIRE THE HECK OUT OF ME. (NOTICE I SAID 'HECK')....

HIGH WINDS AND TORNADO'S WERE WHIPPING ALL AROUND US, BUT WE HAD NO FEAR.... COME "HECK" OR HIGH WATER, WE WERE GONNA BE IN LINE AND READY TO RUN FOR THE SEATS. ( I HATE TO HAVE TO STAND UP FOR SEVERAL HOURS, I'M TOO OLD FOR THAT SHIT ;)

AS WE ENTERED COVINGTON KY, THE RAIN STOPPED AS IF IT WERE MAGIC....
FIRST IN LINE !
AND ONLY 1 1/2 HOUR TIL THE DOORS OPENED....
NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE HAD TIME TO KILL...
(WHICH IN HINDSIGHT, WE COULD HAVE STOOD BY THE STAGE ..........)

WE RAN LIKE INSANE ESCAPEES UP THE STAIRS TO GET CHAIRS.
YES, SHE WAS ANT-SIZED,
BUT WE WERE SITTING, BY GOSH.
PLUS, I AM ALWAYS PREPARED WITH BINOCULARS ;)

WE INSTANTLY
MADE FRIENDS.
THE "L" IS FOR
LUCINDA,
I THINK....
WE EVEN GOT JOE,
THE BOUNCER-DUDE,
TO WASH THE GLASS
 IN FRONT OF US
SO WE COULD
SEE BETTER.

SHAKEY SHOT ALERT

 LUCINDA LIKES TO ROCK....
LITERALLY !
(PLUS I HAD A BIT OF SHAKING GOING ON MYSELF;)
WE COULD HAVE BEEN RIGHT ON THE STAGE, BUT COMFORT WAS OUR PRIORITY, PLUS WE HAD FRONT ROW SEATS THE LAST TIME. AS A BLOGGER / WANNA-BE PHOTOGRAPHER, ALWAYS BRING YOUR BUSINESS CARDS !
(IT'S TOUGH TO FIND A PEN IN THE DARK)
IT SEEMED TO FLY BY, BUT AS A BLOGGER, THERE'S ALWAYS MORE...
(ALWAYS ONE OF MY FAVORITE STOPS :)
TEE-SHIRT VENDORS !!!
