I haven't done a "Fashion and Philosophy" post in a long while,
Buttt......
I saw this as a perfect opportunity ;)
*(Remember these are my thoughts only)*
I just paroozed the IFB weekly roundup of Links a La Mode, and of course the first one I clicked on was yet another "What's wrong with Blogs" ... Or better yet the writers/creators of them.
The"Question my approach, Should I feel bad about myself" links
that seems to dominate most groups these days...
I honestly don't even know who or what site it came from (I swear!),
but just for a moment can't we just see it for what it is, and stop dissecting fashion blogs? They aren't about brain surgery,
but fashion, personal style (and pretty, inspiring  pictures).
Style and Fashion blogging!
It's really just a simple forum to talk and display what it is that attracts us all to fashion...
Sure, great, original content is a bonus, but also the cool outfits and ideas are probably what keeps most people coming back to our little old blogs in the first place... Yes, most folks of this generation,(as in me), have the attention span of a gnat on crack, but that's OK.
It still is what it is.
 *Inspiration* -
Pretty pictures, learning something new, fun DIY's, new friends, and showing off how clever we can be on occasion.
I don't think I need a dissertation on the mechanics of brain surgery or a course in existential thought (at least not on a style blog). I'm sure there are lots of blogs for that.  Don't get me wrong, there are great style bloggers with terrific content, I admire that!

I suppose I just hope that we continue to remember that Fashion Blogging isn't brain surgery, but a forum to just be ourselves (which does sometimes include a bit of philosophy), inspire, and appreciate each other whether through text or cool images ...
I believe there's room for both...

" IT TAKES A LOT OF COURAGE TO SHOW YOUR DREAM  TO SOMEONE ELSE "

I GOTTA SAY A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO COMMENTED YESTERDAY ;)
IT'S FUNNY, BUT WHEN YOU START LOOKING FOR THE 'CLUES'
THAT LEAD YOU TO YOUR TRUE NATURE, THEY POP UP VERY QUICKLY.

I STARTED THE "FASHION AND PHILOSOPHY" SERIES A WHILE BACK, TO LET OTHER'S IN AND SEE WHAT MAKES ME TICK. A FORTY-SOMETHING WHO HAS THE KIND OF THOUGHTS I HOPE WE ALL HAVE, AND A VENUE FOR SHARING THE SOLUTIONS TO THOUGHTS AND QUESTIONS REGARDING ART AND STYLE FOR THE OVER-40 CROWD, OR ANYONE WHO SHARES MY PASSION FOR FASHION (WHICH INVOLVES REACHING DEEPER THAN MY CLOSET SOMETIMES).

THE FIRST CLUE WAS IN THE WONDERFUL COMMENTS
WHICH GAVE ME A SENSE OF FRIENDSHIP AND SUPPORT.
THE OTHER WAS THE LOST FOLLOWER I GOT ;)
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, FOR THE FIRST TIME,
THE LACK OF SELF-DOUBT THAT CAME WITH IT.
SO, THE CLUES I RECEIVED WERE TO DO AND BE WHATEVER I CHOOSE AND STOP WORRYING SO MUCH ABOUT THE SMALL STUFF AND JUST CREATE.
(THE ORIGINAL GOAL OF THIS BLOG IN THE FIRST PLACE)....

SO AS A WANNA-BE PHOTOGRAPHER,
I MOVED MY CAMERA WAY UP HIGH ONTO A TABLE AND BEGAN TO SHOOT. AFTERWARDS, I PUT MY ON MY HEADPHONES, AND BEGAN TO LISTEN TO THE BLUES, WATER MY SOUL AND ENJOY CREATING JUST FOR THE SAKE OF CREATING. WITH LACE AND HARLEY BOOTS, MY HAT AND FREEDOM FROM MY SELF-DOUBT, HERE ARE SOME SHOTS I REALLY LIKE. (PLUS I WAS HAVING A REALLY GOOD HAIR DAY ;) ALL IMAGES WERE
SELF-EDITED, TOO !
(YES, I AM BRAGGING, SO SHOOT ME)
GET IT? :) - SHOOT ME....
TOTAL IMAGES: 18
MY GOAL TO BE A PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER BY 50 IS STILL ON! (IF YOU'RE ON A FIRST-NAME BASIS WITH SANTA, PLEASE TELL HIM I NEED SOME NEW LENSES)...

ONWARD AND UPWARD,
INWARD AND OUT.....

WHEN I STAND BEFORE GOD AT THE END OF MY LIFE I WOULD HOPE THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE A SINGLE BIT OF TALENT LEFT, AND COULD SAY
"I USED EVERY THING YOU GAVE ME"

Fashion and Philosophy Series / On Feminism

What is it really ?  And am i one ???
Ever since this question has been presented to me, i have honestly had a tough time even defining the word. I've always considered myself a humanitarian, an animal rights activist, and an advocate for people with disabilities, but the word 'feminist' seemed to bring back thoughts of the bra-burning, equal pay, equal rights, my body-my-choice 70's....

So, on a day, when i was practicing my portrait-taking skills, and wearing make-up and the most feminine outfit i've worn in a while ;) - i decided to look backward, and in doing so, i might figure out what feminism means to me today .....

I grew up in a very small town, smack-dab in the middle of the bible belt. A place where men were men and women knew their 'place'. I learned at a very early age that girls played with dolls and boys liked trucks. Period.
So why did i like rocks, dirt and the occasional play-ground scuffle ?
Don't get me wrong, i dug "Barbie" ( whom i now call "the devil" ),
but thought that was just me being a bit strange. So, i became a cheerleader, hoped to marry a doctor, and blended.

Fast-forward to high school, the 80's. During this time, i began to rebel as most do. I was still a band-geek, but also loved to hang out on the smoking patio. ( yep, that was the eighties ;) - the decade of decadence.
I quickly morphed into a Madonna-Prince hybrid. My 'insides' were another story.

I found that i was a lot like this rock, all shiny on the outside,
but very raw and simple on the inside.

I became a wild child. I thought i knew what was what.
Now some people need a simple nudge to wake up, while other's need a boulder to hit them on the head. I was the latter ....

One night at a party, i was almost raped. I thought it was my fault for
being drunk. "Whew, close call" or so i thought. Boys will be boys....
I didn't dare tell .....

I found myself in an abusive relationship soon after.
He said it was my fault and always swore he'd never hurt me again....
The black eyes didn't make me leave, however. It was the cheating.
No one could understand how i could have allowed myself to be treated in such a way. But i could. I thought i was ugly and didn't deserve to be treated in any other way. I did vow, however, that no man would ever get close enough to me to hurt me ever again. Ever...

For many years thereafter, i found thousands of ways to abuse myself.
Go figure !

It has been through many years of pain, then growth, that a gift of freedom and acceptance has been given to me by women who have been there themselves. But not only by women, but men who are also feminists. Who believe in me and have taught me the value of each and every woman in the world.

Am i a feminist ???

Let me answer that with a quote :
"Remember no one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
—Eleanor Roosevelt
