Summer Silk Part Two ....

Hi Everybody :)
Thank God there is a day-long 'Cycle something-or-other' re-run
of ANTM, cause I can't take this heat! I melt like a tub of butter....
I wither like a rose plucked off the vine and left to rot. OK, that wasn't very poetic... But you get the jist...
Needless to say, these photos were taken yesterday and I have yet to even peek my head out the door. Yes, I am an air-conditioner junkie ;)
It's almost noon, so I suppose I do need to get dressed soon...
I think this tee is getting smelly...

This weekend is a cool-down,
(thank you baby Jesus), and guess what? It's another Lucinda Williams concert! I'm a bit stymied on what to wear. I usually have 3-4 outfits on the launch-pad by now. Should I go the usual cowgirl girly-girly (hat, boots and skirt- the usual) or pop out of my L.W. concert attire and go totally, wickedly back-asswards and do a sandal/jean thing? ( It's an outdoor venue and I hate sitting on foreign, germy chairs in a short skirt)...
I once wore a sarong with cowboy boots and a tee.... Hmm...
Any inspiration/ideas you have will be appreciated !

Oh, Yeah! I am wearing a silk shirt dress here ;)
It may actually be a swimsuit cover-up, but I like it as a dress ( I have on a short skirt underneath as the sides have a rather long slit ;) - I'm looking for some flesh-tone shorts to wear underneath next time or maybe a short slip with lace around the bottom for peek-a-bility ;)

I'm not sure right now if it is turquoise or swirly cammo.

My editor/auto enhancer says Turquoise :) - (Left)

My camera says it's more greenish...

My favorite part is this Asian print silk scarf. It has 3 beautiful Geisha's and is about 5 ft. long. I scored this during my last thrift. When I find such a beauty, I always assume the prior owner died, otherwise, she'd keep all of her scarves...

Too bad they are smushed and tough to see. (I forgot to photograph it) - I hope she's happy that I am the one who will be cherishing it for years to come :)

Mail Bag Question of the Week:

"Why are most of your photos taken sitting rather than standing?"

The answer is two-fold. My camera lens is an 18- 55mm, which takes the most clear images when you are around 3-4 feet away. You can see details better and color is more true. So, that saves time getting the right light and color. I am tall, and it seems when I stand, the images aren't as good, since I have to put my tri-pod farther away.

I also prefer taking more "portrait" style photos and I don't think it's necessary to always be standing to see the whole outfit. Most people get the jist by sitting. I have noticed that many clothing sites use images in which the model is sitting, and it is still appealing to me. Plus, I just feel more natural when sitting and can actually smile as I am comfier. However, I do add one or two standing shots for proportion.

Summer in Silk....

Happy Monday everyone :)
I am wearing silk and loving it ! I used to avoid silk, as the "dry-clean-only" tag made me shiver, plus I somehow thought silk was a 'fancy' fabric - a bit too stuffy for me...
But lately, I am not enjoying wearing the traditional tanks and anything that shows too much arm (or boob ;) so, I gave silk a go. I wanted something cool as the temps. here in Cincy are hot and very sticky.

I have always scooped up silk scarves, but never was quite sure what to wear with silk in the summer.... A silk blouse with jeans or pants was all I could think of, til I saw this silk skirt while thrifting and decided the best way to don silk may just be with another piece of silk!

I wanted to keep my 'style' in the mix and not look like I was on a job interview (though I think this would be great), so the skirt was luckily above the knee and I paired some vintage T-straps, brooch, necklace and of course a silk scarf in my hair ;)
I actually felt well put-together and not so sweaty
all at the same time! Mom would be so proud :)

I brought the outfit into the "now" by mixing and matching prints...

Hi Everybody !

I've been watching old 'Joan of Arcadia' re-runs and I always take something away from this simple, yet, really deep T.V. show...
(which was cancelled after only 2 seasons...)

I love it when I hear something that I've heard a thousand different ways, then hear it in a different medium and it resonates as if I am hearing some kind of universal truth for the first time! I love that!
Many people would say that it's because you weren't 'ready' to hear it....

I suppose that's a sort of way to express why I started style blogging - to meet cool people, and think about why I have chosen to dress a certain way, and find other's who can relate to my choices and hold a lighted mirror to my face, and in a thoughtful comment, say "you rock", whether they "like" what I'm wearing or not - who are my lights!

There are so many Lights in my life that have helped me keep on blogging, trying,
and I could never list them all,
but there is one who comes to mind right away, and that is The Citizen Rosebud, who is such a great friend and mentor to have in my corner.
My Mom #2, My Brother
and Sister-in-law, and so many more!
All the people who pop by with encouraging thoughts,

OK, so I was going to play "Yankee Doodle" for you while sitting in front of my red door, but I kept messing up. Then I did a video of the most boring neighborhood fireworks ever, but it put me to sleep, so pretend you are watching cool fireworks while listening to a serenade on my recorder :)

As most holidays go, I did manage to hit the newest Thrift store in my neighborhood, and my favorite Goodwill :) It official, I love silk ! My newest favorite thing for summer heat. I may have to skip out on a few maxi posts so I can wear this glorious fabric...
Who knew little bitty worms could make something so wonderful!
