A FORTY-SOMETHING IN A TU-TU ....

HOW TO TRY A TREND WITHOUT TRYING TOO HARD
* * * * * * * * * * *
HI, EVERYBODY !!!
THIS POST IS DEDICATED TO ALL OF US WHO WOULD LIKE TO TRY THE TRENDS WE SEE WITHOUT SACRIFICING OUR TRUE INNER STYLE AND WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE WE ARE LONGING FOR THE 'GLORY DAYS'....
OR JUST PLAIN OLD TRYING TOO HARD ;)
TRENDS ARE A FUN WAY TO PLAY WITH YOUR IMAGINATION ,
AND CREATIVITY !

THIS POST ISN'T MEANT TO TELL ANYONE WHAT TO WEAR OR EVER DISCOURAGE THOSE OF US (aka ME) WHO JUST REALLY ENJOY THE ART THAT IS FASHION, BUT THESE ARE SOME TIPS
I HAVE LEARNED ALONG THE WAY THAT YOU MAY OR MAY NOT AGREE WITH :)
so here I go!
Take what you need and leave the rest :)
WITH A FEW OF THESE TIPS , YOU MIGHT BE DONNING A TU-TU BY TOMORROW....
( COME ON, DOESN'T EVERY LITTLE GIRL HAVE A TOUCH OF BALLERINA IN HER ? )

FIRST:    BE REALISTIC -  ASK YOURSELF "IS THIS SOMETHING I REALLY
LIKE? " .....  "OR AM I JUST TRYING TO LOOK YOUNG AND HIP? "
THE ANSWER MAY BE BOTH ! WHICHEVER IT IS, I BUY TRENDS ON THE CHEAP !
THIS TU-TU DRESS I SNAGGED FOR $3 BUCKS AND SINCE IT WAS SO CHEAP,
I ALSO  GOT ONE IN ALL BLACK.
WHY ? BECAUSE I REALLY LIKED IT , BUT WASN'T SO SURE IT WOULD BE
A 'WARDROBE STAPLE' ;) I JUST KNEW IT WOULD BE FUN TO WEAR!

SECOND: WILL I FEEL CONFIDENT WEARING IT ??? IF THE ANSWER IS YES, GO FOR IT !!!
IF THE ANSWER IS PROBABLY NOT, FIND A CHEAP ONE -
( Dots is a great place to find trends on the cheap ) , AND PRACTICE YOUR
CONFIDENCE. YOU JUST MAY BE SURPRISED ;)
HOLD YOUR GLORIOUS, BEAUTIFUL HEAD HIGH AND STRUT YOUR STUFF!
OR POP ON A BIG-@SS PAIR OF SUNGLASSES ;)
EITHER WAY, THRIFT SHOPS OR CLEARANCE RACKS ARE THE WAY I GO!
SWAPPING IS ANOTHER GREAT WAY TO TRY A TREND,
WITHOUT PUTTING OUT A LOT OF CASH ;)

WAYS TO KEEP TRENDS FROM LOOKING TOO
TEENY- BOPPER...
          ( VERY OLD SKOOL FOR TEEN-AGERY ;)
1.  I KEPT THE LEGS THICK AND BLACK TO COORDINATE WITH THE SKIRT.
I TRIED TO CREATE A LONG NEUTRAL SILHOUETTE , KEEPING MY LEGS COVERED.
FLAT RIDING BOOTS ALSO ADDED A MORE CASUAL LOOK TO THE DRESS.
2.  I ADDED A GREEN MILITARY-INSPIRED JACKET AND BELT TO TONE DOWN THE
"LITTLE GIRL" PROPERTIES OF THE TU-TU.
3.  I WORE A NEWSBOY CAP, AGAIN TO TOUGHEN UP THE DRESS. ( and add my personality )

MAKE IT YOUR OWN !!!
I ADDED MY PERSONAL STYLE WITH A VINTAGE RHINESTONE BROOCH, AN INFINITY T-SHIRT SCARF ( to detract from the boobies )  MY DANGLY ABALONE  EARRINGS AND GOLD CUFF.
( plus some sunnies ;)

(COME ON, I HAD TO GO PINK ;)
AND LASTLY, BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST,
HAVE FUN WITH YOUR WARDROBE !
IT WANTS IT :)
IS THIS TREND A KEEPER?
ONLY TIME WILL TELL ...
AND OF COURSE, IF YOU'RE INTO BEING SPOT-ON TRENDY, THE TU-TU IS ALREADY OUT :)
xXx

Love it when you smile, you look gorgeous, Reva!
It ain't what you wear, it's the way that you wear it. I honesty think one can get away with anything as long as you own it and add your own personality, which you do. xxx

Reva, this is perfect..you do not look like you are trying too hard at all. IF I had your body, I would wear this! You styled it just perfect for your age! Sooo cute!

I think the tutu is so fun. I love the advice you gave on styling it. You pulled it off very well, and still look like you. I am in my twenties, but I look very young. People mistake me for a high schooler a lot. I'm wondering how I could pull off a tutu without looking too young. I'm thinking structured clothes, and edgy accessories.

Okay you are rockin that skirt
Today at the thrift store I saw one and picked it up about 5 times and put it back thinking I was too old.
If it is still there tomorrow when I go work, I am getting it!

Love how you're wearing the tu-tu skirt with so much personal style!, and I think your advices are a great inspiration: I'm a huge fan of that 'practice your confidence' part, so wise!

I love the jacket on you. Like the tutu also, but since students wear them to class...it's not likely that I'll ever try it.
