STREET SMART

SACRAMENTO STREET STYLE BY:
THE CITIZEN ROSEBUD

I AM HONORED AND THRILLED TO BE OFFERING UP A PEEK INTO THE WORLD OF THE CITIZEN ROSEBUD. ON MY JOURNEY, I HAVE MET MANY NEW, EXCITING BLOGGERS, AND BELLA Q, AKA "THE CITIZEN ROSEBUD", IS A STYLE BLOGGER THAT HAS INFLUENCED ME THE MOST. I CONSIDER HER ONE OF MY NEWEST BEST FRIENDS. SHE'S THE KIND OF GAL-PAL THAT GIVES YOU A NUDGE WHEN YOU NEED ONE, TELLS YOU LIKE IT IS, AND SUPPORTS SO MANY SO WELL !  HER HEART IS AS BIG AS CALIFORNIA AND HER SACRAMENTO STREET STYLE ROCKS MY WORLD :) WITHOUT FURTHER GUSHING: A PEEK INTO THE THOUGHTS AND STYLE OF THE ONE AND ONLY "FEMME VITALE" !

WHAT INSPIRES THE CITIZEN ?

I am inspired by people who are comfortable in their own skin, and who look beyond themselves and care for others.
My style inspirations come from fashion history (I love Victorian and Mod fashion equally), my personal history (clothes that remind me of happy memories such as icelandic sweaters of the late '60's, Pendleton plaids of the early '90's) and street style. Lately I've been particularly smitten with "alternative" styles like Steam-punk, and Japanese street style. But I have a strong "preppy" streak in me so I love "classic" fabrics and patterns like tartan plaids, hounds tooth, polka dots, stripes and florals.

I would describe my look as "Everyday Eccentric." I love to goof it up a bit, and dress a bit like a doll at times. I don't like to conform, so I pretty much dress as I please, or rather dress what pleases me. I don't drive a car, so whatever I wear has to be practical and mobile. My shoes have to be able to function walking or riding my bike. Thank goodness, wedges and heels work well on my bike pedals!

HER TAKE ON STREET STYLE :

I would say the most recent and powerful influence on me is my awareness of streetstyle. Thanks to photographers such as Scott Shuman (the Sartorialist), Wayne Tippets, Tim Scott & Ted Polhemus, my sensibilities have been awakened to the art of expression that is street style. Last year, thanks to a tip by Mr. Wayne Tippets, who I was researching for an article, I stumbled upon and was granted access to the PYMCA (Photographic Youth Music Culture Archive)(http://pymca.com/) which holds pretty much the largest streetstyle/culture collection of images in the world. This is where museums and institutions go for unique cultural images, and I was honored to be granted access to the archives! The collection, which I barely viewed completely bowled me over and completely changed the direction I was going. I realized that I wasn't fascinated by "FASHION" but instead was obsessed with "style," namely personal style.

There's a book I would highly recommend as an introduction to the history of street style and you can view it through my Amazon shop (http://astore.amazon.com/citizroseb-20) It is called PCYMA Street Style by Ted Polhemus. While I don't sell it directly, there are amazon sellers who sell it a lot cheaper than I paid for it when I bought it directly from the PYMCA.

WHAT MAKES A GREAT BLOG ?

For me what makes a great blog is one that has a clear voice, consistent posting and original content. As a blogger you've got to have a clear message, and stay on message. That means I don't want to hear you whining about your personal life if you have a fashion blog, I want to see and read and breathe fashion from your blog. And NO MUSIC! I refuse to stay and comment from any blog that insists on keeping those auto-play music players, because they are telling ME loud and clear that they have no consideration for their readers. Why? Because one can only listen to the same short stanza over and over if we want to comment or read older posts.

My other tip is to interact with your readers! READ their comments and respond to them. Visit their blogs, and leave them comments! Blogging is a two-way communication stream. If you wanted to be just talking to yourself, I suggest you buy yourself a nice journal.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST:
PEARLS OF WISDOM ?

Ah, words of wisdom! My pearls are "Be yourself, and be kind to others" No matter how good you may be at being LIKE someone else you can only be a second-rate version of somebody else, but YOU are always a first-rate version of yourself. And work on being the best you, you can be. That makes for a better world, and a happier life.

Bella's just awesome, and you've done a wonderful introduction to her and her blog, Reva! you are both inspirations - and i love that The Citizen brings out the California style which is usually neglected (towards the center of the state, away from the high-focus 'edges' of SF & LA).

i can't think of anything else to say except THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to you both!!!! steph
